Surgery and Bone Grafting

One of the consequences of losing one tooth is bone resorption - shrinkage of the bone. In order to expand it again so that an implant becomes feasible - a process similar to expanding corrugated paper takes place in order to widen it. In the case of the jawbones it happens as the implant is placed. For the jaws a second surgery is required around 3 weeks later.

Bone grafting is a surgical procedure whose aim is to heighten or widen the jawbone and maxillar so that it's volume is increased in order to place an implant.
